what's making me happy

You know, one of the tragedies of real life is that there is no background music. – Annie Proulx

Here is what's making me happy this week, as inspired by meet me in the city

My Conscious Box, Birch BoxRocksBox & Unmentionably Cheeky Subscriptions. It's like Christmas morning whenever they come! And all of these are relatively affordable- most under $20/month!

Fall TV. It is the best time of year. From Scandal to Vampire Diaries to Homeland to Modern Family to Nashville to New Girl to Mindy Project to Grey's Anatomy to Walking Dead...need I go on? I DON'T CARE I LOVE IT.

This hilarious stationary company. What is a better way to start a greeting card than You Fabulous Bitch

This blog post featuring the world's cutest little girl from Oh Joy.

This BuzzFeed post called 14 Movie Poster Face Swaps You Can't Unsee. Number 8 actually makes a little sense.

This BuzzFeed post called 23 Things That Enrage New Yorkers. Number 5. Had a complete emotional breakdown over this. AND NUMBER 16. GET OFF THE POLE.

This BuzzFeed post called The 24 Most Relatable Mindy Lahiri Quotes. Number 10. Oh. my. god. Annnnd number 3. Cannot breathe.

Spying on people through the windows at Crunch Gym while listening to Wrecking Ball (I'm sorry...it's too good)

Random Family by Adrian Nicole Leblanc - also, how amazing is this author's name?

This Huffington Post article called Surviving Whole Foods. This actually made me want to go to Whole Foods, and I subsequently bumped into Justin Long in the refrigerated section. It was worth the trip.

How to take a selfie. As explained by Man Repeller. I find this very amusing as well as helpful...

8 Ways to Stay Cold Free this Fall! I will undoubtedly fail at this. But maybe you won't!

Try. Fail. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

“Try. Fail. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” – Samuel Beckett

What's interesting about the above quote is that it originally was: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

But some jerk on Pinterest shortened it and WahLAH! Is that how you spell that? Let's go with it. I like the original better. Ever tried, ever failed just sounds so petite and pretty.

I've decided that I'm eventually going to move my blog over to Wordpress, and am in the process of looking for a great web page designer! If you are interested, or know of anyone who is interested, I'd love to hear from you!

In the meantime, I will carry on with my normal New York City blog business. Ya heard? Ignore.

I just got back from the gym (Crunch on 4th Ave - quit Clay, long story...basically hate them but anyways) and the endorphins are going strong! I can't wait to get into an actual gym schedule, and maybe reach my goals for once. I feel I should mention that I had a large bowl of coffee ice cream before I went to the gym. Thank god for stair master.

As many of you know by now, I am a huge lover of both television AND fashion...so naturally, The Emmys were heavenly. Here is my run down of the ladies who were best dressed

Claire Danes

Kerry Washington

Mindy Kaling

Kate Mara

Taylor Schilling

 Zooey Deschanel

 Rose Byrne

 Kiernan Shipka

Elisabeth Moss

I have now made it successfully through two weeks at Cosmopolitan Magazine. It is magical over there. I think my favorite moment is coming in at 9 am. The office is quiet, serene, lovely. I walk to my desk, turn on my desktop, sip my coffee and pretend for a second that I actually work there. I am not allowed to say much about what I do on a daily basis...but I will say that Ariana Grande is a sweetheart and Chris Pine is majorly hot. ;)

My classes this semester are all very different, but I am digging them so far. In Cultural Foundations III (my 8 am...) we just finished reading Emerson and for next week we will be reading Whitman. Of course, the only reason I'm excited to read Walt Whitman is because of Breaking Bad. Not ashamed at all.

In my Introduction to Journalism course I am freaking out a little bit. My professor, Clay Shirky, is actually Tom Hanks. He just is. Don't know when I'm planning on confronting him about it. But he's Tom Hanks and I'm in love and that is the final word. There's even a website dedicated to this!! He is an excellent professor, and I'm learning so much from him. His class is my first real lecture! I feel so college-ey. I forget I'm in the middle of Manhattan during his lectures. AND he made my world one day when he PUT A SAMPLE OF MY WRITING ON THE SCREEN. Here was the exact bit: “One of the tradeoffs for war journalists is that they can put themselves in harm’s way, and get an excellent story or even an exclusive…” – Jordan Scott. He may not have included the entire sentence...but I still died a little inside.

My roommate Britt just started such an adorable blog called meet me in the city. You have to check it out! She's already inspired me to do a 'What's Making Me Happy' post!

Also, Dancing with the Stars has begun it's 9439208 season and I couldn't be more excited to see BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!! What? How is he still alive? I feel like every child born between 1970-2013 has learned science from him. Other notables include Snooki and Carrie from King of Queens. LOL. Love it.

Also, I've been really into this blog Into The Gloss. This is a great article about an adorable little Manhattan couple....I want this life.
